There has recently been a spike in home invasions in my area. That's not a good thing, having a cap in your ass isn't a good thing either.
What do you use to protect your property?
This is all I've got. It kinda works, and then it kinda doesn't.

I have a break-action single shot .410 that will not fire. It looks intimidating though, makes a loud noise when you lock it and is still a large blunt object with which I could bludgeon someone. Other than that I have a Greyhound that can snap a Kong ball in two with her jaws - imagine what she could do to a body.

One of the main reasons why I like my M&P so much is the ludicrous ammo capacity. 17 in the mag and one in the chamber, so I could potentially fend off 2-4 attackers. It's also dead reliable and easy to shoot. Hard to go wrong with a revolver in .357 Magnum, though.

And you "have to" because why exactly?
I assume that someone breaking into a house is looking for a quick score of cash and items they can sell, and they're also not looking to also catch a murder charge.
Given this assumption, I'd rather make every effort to not resist, and comply with their demands. I can always call the cops and file an insurance claim after they leave.

I also have a pellet rifle, but both of those are in a gun safe two floors from my bedroom. There are however multiple nerf guns stashed throughout the house, and my son has a pretty wicked Jake and the Neverland Pirates sword, telescope also, but I doubt I'd use the telescope on an intruder.

If the person breaks in, with a gun. The first action would be to get that gun, and hide until the person comes into the same room as you.
Complying with their demands is even riskier, the first thought that would go though a criminals head would be money, and more money could mean Ransom, and that's under the realm of kidnapping.
I wouldn't shoot an unarmed man who broke into my house, but another armed man, would be claiming self defense.

I own a few guns if 15 is a few, but in my opinion the best choice is my Mossberg 930 Tactical shotgun. Short length, semi auto, easy to handle and you will not miss your target, the rounds aren't going to travel through the walls as easily as a 9mm or larger caliber round. I have a close friend who was in a shootout with 2 armed robbers in a hallway that was 15 feet long he got one guy in the gut and missed the other guy after going through 8 rounds. He was only grazed on his calf and forearm. They had .22 cal pistols he has a .40, his rounds ended up going through a wall and ending up in the garage wall which had shelving and materials to slow it down. I understand the whole knife is a safe option but NEVER bring a knife to a gun fight. Not saying they will all be gun fights but Id rather be the most prepared out of the people involved in a home invasion. My 2 pennies nothing more.

Exactly. This hypothetical intruder could have any number of hypothetical responses to trying to take their gun. Many of those responses will not end well for the person trying to take the gun.
Here's a thought experiment for you.
Situation 1:
Hypothetical armed intruder breaks into house. Homeowner tries to either take intruder's gun, or use their own weapon to fend off the intruder. This ends in either A) intruder shoots homeowner, takes all of homeowners stuff, homeowner is now dead or in need of serious medical attention; or B) homeowner successfully disarms intruder, manages to gain the upper hand and shoot the intruder, then calls the cops while intruder bleeds all over their nice freshly installed Bella wood flooring (thanks Bob Vila!), homeowner then has to deal with all the ordeal of proving they shot the intruder in self defense. Although if this is in Florida or another "stand your ground" state then the homeowner probably will get off no problem as long as they're not a minority. Because stand your ground states generally are also states with deep-seated institutional racism.
Situation 2:
Hypothetical armed intruder breaks into house. Homeowner complies with intruders demands. This ends in either: A) intruder takes homeowner's stuff and leaves, homeowner calls their insurance company and gets their stuff replaced; or B) intruder takes homeowner's stuff and escalates to doing something worse to the homeowner like kidnapping or shooting them.
Personally, I like the odds in Situation 2 a lot better. Because in this situation, if the intruder gets what they came for, it stands to reason they will be more likely to take their winnings and get the hell out of there, than to escalate the situation to a worse crime where they could get in worse trouble.
But anyway, I've learned long ago that not everyone shares my personal anti-gun beliefs, and while that disappoints me, I've also learned that anything more than sharing my reasoning is just going to get everyone involved more irked than necessary. ;)

That was helpful, I appreciate it.
In my area, the home invasions have been armed men breaking into houses that contain those who are unarmed. I've heard multiple stories, and heard firsthand about home invasions where the armed robber shoots the home owner, just out of spite. A person in my neighborhood was shot and killed almost as soon as I moved in, and it was the result of a botched home invasion. The neighbor was unarmed, the criminal was not.
There is a slightly higher chance of a deadly gun battle when both parties have guns, which is an obvious fact.
I'm not anti-gun, I have a hunting rifle, a couple antique revolvers that don't function and the pictured gun. Which is dangerous to use, so I don't use it.
I wouldn't shoot an unarmed man, and the point of having that gun would be to intimidate the would be criminal until the Police arrive.
